Belgrade Weather in April

Mild days, changeable skies

April feels like spring in Belgrade: mild afternoons, cool evenings and a fair chance of rain. Days reach about 19°C, but mornings can still feel chilly. The weather's comfortable for walking Knez Mihailova, exploring Kalemegdan Fortress or taking a riverside stroll along the Sava.

Rain falls on several days, so outdoor plans may need a flexible backup. Skip long walks on the riverbanks when showers make paths muddy, and save indoor sights like the National Museum for a wet spell. May is warmer, but also wetter.

Events and holiday weekends

The Belgrade Marathon often takes place in April, bringing runners and road closures to central streets. Check the route before heading across town on race day; buses and trams may be diverted.

Orthodox Easter can also fall in April, though its date changes each year. Some shops and restaurants may close or keep shorter hours over the holiday. For families, a quiet Easter weekend can be lovely, but don't count on every favourite café being open.

A good-value spring break

April is a shoulder-season month, so the city is usually less crowded than in summer. You'll generally find better value than during peak holiday periods, though marathon weekend and Easter can bring extra visitors. Expect May to feel busier as the weather warms.

Budget travellers can enjoy café breaks around Dorćol without the summer rush. If rain catches you near Kalemegdan, duck into a nearby kafana for ćevapi, grilled minced meat served with bread. It's a cosy way to wait out a shower before heading back to the fortress.
