February: warm and humid

February feels hot from morning into the evening, with high humidity and little relief after sunset. Rain is fairly light overall, though it can fall on several days, so a brief shower may interrupt a walk. The sea breeze along Lomé's coast can make a stroll more pleasant than sightseeing inland.

You can visit the National Museum or browse the Grand Marché, but the sticky heat can make long walks tiring. Save a stretch of beach time for later in the day, and avoid a demanding city walk in the midday heat. The weather is still good for a relaxed visit; it just won't feel cool.

Events and local life

February doesn't have a major nationwide holiday or fixed festival in Lomé. Togo's Independence Day is in April, while the well-known Evala wrestling festivals take place in July, far from the capital. You'll find everyday city life instead: market trips, coastal evenings and stalls serving dishes such as akoumé, a cornmeal staple.

Travelling with kids? Keep a museum visit short, then head to the coast when the sun feels less intense.

December and January are the best months overall, so February is usually a quieter time to visit than the holiday season. You may also find less pressure on accommodation than in those peak months, though prices vary by hotel and event. March brings a noticeable jump in rain, making February a useful choice if you want to explore before wetter weather sets in.

At the Grand Marché, ask for the Nana Benz wax-print section if you're browsing fabric. The market can feel crowded and warm, so take breaks in nearby streets rather than trying to cover every stall at once.
