Visiting Geneva in July
July weather by the lake
July is warm, with highs around 25°C and evenings near 16°C. You'll get long daylight and plenty of sun, but rain still falls on about 13 days, so showers can interrupt a lake day. June is wetter; August is slightly drier, though both months share July's daytime high.
Swimming at Bains des Pâquis or taking a boat across Lake Geneva works well in the warm spells. On rainy afternoons, head indoors to the Patek Philippe Museum or browse the Old Town. Long walks up to the Salève can feel exposed in the midday heat, so save the climb for a cooler part of the day.
Summer events and crowds
July is high season, and Geneva feels busier than in quieter months. Hotels and flights can cost more, especially around the lake and in the centre. The Fêtes de Genève aren't a reliable July fixture, so don't plan a trip around them.
For music by the water, look for Les Aubes at Bains des Pâquis, a summer series of early-morning concerts. Families who want quieter swims can try Genève-Plage rather than the busiest stretches of the waterfront.
Getting around in July
The Mouettes genevoises are small yellow water taxis that cross the harbour. They're a pleasant way to get between the Pâquis and Eaux-Vives without walking around the lake's edge. If you're staying in a hotel, ask for the Geneva Transport Card; it gives guests free public transport during their stay, including the Mouettes.
For a relaxed break between swims, pick up a longeole, Geneva's fennel-seasoned sausage, at a local restaurant. It's a filling meal after a day outside, but less suited to a hot afternoon than a lakeside dip.
