When to visit Seychelles

Two seasons, one warm country

Seychelles is hot all year, so you're really choosing between wet and dry, and between calm and breezy. Our data covers Victoria, on Mahé, and it points to June to August as the best window. Those months are drier and less sticky.

The islands have two main seasons. From about December to March the northwest trade winds (the monsoon) bring rain and heavier air. January is the wettest month in Victoria, with 206 mm. Showers tend to arrive in bursts, then clear. From about May to September the southeast trades blow. The air feels fresher and the evenings are comfortable.

April is the hottest month at 29°C. It's also a calm in-between time, when winds drop and the sea can be glassy. Snorkellers often love it. October and November are another quiet stretch before the rains return.

Where the wind changes your beach

Timing matters by beach as much as by month. In the southeast season, the east coasts of Mahé and Praslin get choppy water and seaweed. The sheltered west side, like Beau Vallon and Anse Intendance's neighbours, is usually the better pick then. Anse Intendance itself has big surf, so check before you swim. During the northwest season the pattern flips.

Hiking is nicer in the drier months. The Morne Seychellois trails and the Copolia path are slippery and steamy after heavy rain.

High season, low season and holidays

High season runs roughly July to August and again over Christmas and New Year. Flights and rooms fill up, and island-hopping ferries between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue get busy. Europe's school holidays drive much of this.

Low season lands in the wet months and around May, when fewer visitors come and you'll often have a beach to yourself. If you want good value and don't mind showers, that's your window.

Local dates can affect plans too. The Creole Festival (Festival Kreol) is held in late October and fills Victoria and other islands with music, food and dance. Independence Day on 29 June is a public holiday, so some shops and services close in Victoria. Travelling with kids? July and August give you the calmest days for family beach time, though you'll share it with others.
