When to visit Guam
One island, one climate
Guam is small, so you won't find big regional differences. Hagatna, the capital, is on the west coast. Tumon Bay, the main resort strip, is a short drive north. Weather there is much the same. The only real difference is which way the wind and swell are coming from.
The best window is February to April. Days are warm but not heavy, and rain is lighter. It's the easiest time for snorkelling at Tumon Bay or Ritidian Beach, in the far north.
Dry season and wet season
Think of the year in two halves. From about December to June it's drier, with trade winds off the ocean. Afternoons feel less sticky, and the sea is often calm on the west side. June is the hottest month at 29°C, so by then the breeze matters.
The wet season runs from July into November. August is the wettest month, with 285 mm. Expect heavy downpours, muggy air and grey skies. Mornings are often clear, so plan beaches and boat trips early and save museums for the afternoon. Try the Guam Museum in Hagatna or the Plaza de España, the old Spanish-era square.
This is also typhoon season. Storms can hit from summer through late autumn. If you're travelling then, get flexible flights and read the cancellation terms on your hotel.
Holidays and crowds
Peak season follows holidays from Japan and Korea, Guam's biggest visitor markets. Expect busier beaches and fuller hotels around Golden Week in late April and early May, and again in summer and around New Year. Tumon feels lively at those times.
Local dates matter too. Liberation Day on 21 July marks the island's freeing from Japanese occupation in 1944. It brings a big parade in Hagatna and a carnival, so roads close and hotels fill. Travelling with kids? It's a fun day, but arrive early for parking.
The quietest stretch is usually September and October. Rain is frequent and typhoon risk is real, but you'll get lower prices and emptier sand. If you hate crowds and can take a wet day, it's worth a look.
