When to visit Bahrain
Winter is the sweet spot
If you want to be outside, come between November and April. Days are warm rather than punishing, and evenings are cool enough for a walk along the Bahrain Bay waterfront or a stroll through the old suq (market) in Manama. January is the wettest month, but only 12 mm falls, so rain rarely ruins a day. It's usually a short grey spell, not a washout.
Bahrain is small, and Manama is the city on our site. You won't find big regional differences to plan around. Muharraq, the old pearling town, and the Bahrain Fort are a short drive away and share the same weather.
Summer is hot and sticky
August is the hottest month at 38°C, and the humidity makes it feel heavier. Afternoons are for malls, museums and cafés with strong air conditioning. The Bahrain National Museum is a good indoor stop. Most locals spend this time in cool interiors and go out after dark.
If you're travelling on a budget, summer hotel rates are often lower. Just accept that you'll do most sightseeing in the evening. Spring (March and April) and late autumn (October) are gentler middle ground.
Events, holidays and crowds
High season runs roughly November to March. The big draw is the Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sakhir circuit, usually held in spring or late in the year. Hotels fill up and prices rise that weekend, so it's best avoided if you just want a quiet stay. Winter also brings pleasant weather for the Bahrain Fort and the Tree of Life, a lone old tree in the desert.
Bahrain follows the Islamic calendar, so Ramadan and the Eids shift earlier each year. During Ramadan, people fast in daylight. Eating and drinking in public is discouraged, and many restaurants open only after sunset. Evenings can be lively, with family meals and late shopping. Eid al-Fitr, at the end of Ramadan, and Eid al-Adha bring public holidays and busy roads. Many Gulf visitors arrive then too. National Day is 16 December, with flags, fireworks and some closures.
Check the Islamic calendar before you book. It affects opening hours more than the weather does.
