November is one of the easier months for exploring Addis Ababa. Days feel mild and often sunny, while evenings can turn cool at this high-altitude city. Rain is much less common than in October, though a shower can still interrupt an outdoor plan.

You can spend a clear day walking around Piazza, visiting the National Museum or taking in the views from Entoto. The hills can feel chilly after sunset, so don't leave your return until late. If you're hoping for a long stretch of green countryside, expect drier scenery than earlier in the year.

Events and city life

The Great Ethiopian Run, a major road race through Addis Ababa, is usually held in November. It brings a lively atmosphere, but road closures can affect getting around on race day. Confirm the event date before choosing your plans.

If you hate crowds, avoid central roads around the race route that morning. Otherwise, November falls within the popular October-to-March travel season. You'll find more visitors than during the wettest months, and prices may be higher than in the rainy season. It's not usually as busy as the main holiday period around Ethiopian Christmas in January.

For Entoto, take a taxi up rather than relying on a long walk from the city centre. The climb is steep, and the elevation makes it feel harder than the distance suggests. Give yourself time at the top for the views and the historic Entoto Maryam church, then head back before the cooler evening sets in.
