Spring and autumn: the sweet spots

March to April and October to November are the easiest months here. Days are warm, nights are cool, and the air is dry. In April you'll get highs around 28°C and almost no rain. October feels much the same, with a bit more rain early on.

These months suit walking the downtown streets, the Misión de Guadalupe (the old mission church) and the Plaza de Armas. They also suit a day of shopping and eating around Avenida 16 de Septiembre. Try a plate of burritos or a bowl of caldo de res (beef soup) at a local spot. If you're crossing from El Paso on foot or by car, mild weather makes the wait at the bridge less painful.

Summer: hot, then stormy

June is the hottest month, with highs near 37°C. It's also dry and sunny, so afternoons are harsh. Stick to indoor stops like museums and malls in the middle of the day. Go outside at dusk.

July and August bring the monsoon (the summer rainy season). They're the wettest months, with rain on about 10 days each. Storms usually come as short, heavy bursts, and streets can flood fast in low areas. Mornings are often clear. Tourist crowds are small, but many locals travel in summer school holidays, and visiting family from the US adds traffic at the border.

September is the turning point. It's still warm, with more showers, and by October things feel comfortable again.

Winter: sunny days, cold nights

From December to February, days are mild at 15 to 18°C. Nights drop close to freezing, and January has lows around 1°C. It's a desert city, so you'll often get clear skies with a sharp chill after dark. Pack a proper jacket for evenings. It's a good time for city breaks, food crawls and a quiet look at the Cathedral and the Museo de la Revolución en la Frontera.

December brings Christmas posadas (neighbourhood parties before Christmas) and a lot of families coming home. Flights and border crossings get busy then.

Events and crowds

Ciudad Juarez doesn't have a strict tourist high season. Busy times follow holidays instead: Christmas, Semana Santa (Holy Week, in March or April) and summer break. Mid-September has Independence Day, with a big celebration on the night of the 15th. Día de Muertos around 1–2 November fits neatly into the best autumn weather.

If you can pick any time, aim for late March, April or late October.
